Weligama/Midigama

I´d call it surfers paradise! Can´t judge the waves myself, but I met some guys there who stayed at the same bloody beach for 2 months, just to surf. If that doesn´t speak for it as a surfers paradise, I don´t know what could lol.
We were quite disappointed when arriving at the beach in Midigama, because it was covered in trash, due to a storm that had happened a few days earlier and had brought all the plastic waste from the sea to the beaches.
One guy randomly started collecting the plastic pieces and put them into a plastic bag, also washed on by the sea.
At first, all the people relaxing at the beach just watched him, as if he was crazy. Then a boy joined him. Then I did. And in the end we were a changing group of always about 6 people, collecting the waste for more than three hours.
It was an exhausting job, especially because it felt like we did so much! But whenever we looked in the water, there was more trash coming, and the beach was still covered.
But still, seeing the huge bags we had filled at the end of the afternoon, was a great feeling and definitively worth the sweat and exhaustion!
The last thing I want to be on this site is some sort of a moral apostle, BUT: keep your goddamn motherf*cking trash out of the ocean!
We in Europe have a working trash waste system – USE IT!
Whenever you´re on vacation in Asia or somewhere else in poorer countries, where the might not have a trash bin on every corner (or none at all -.-): THAT´S NOT AN EXCUSE TO JUST THROW YOUR TRASH EVERYWHERE!
My friends and me are even collecting the rests of our cigarettes to get rid of them properly at the hostel or the next ash tray, and if I see you throwing your trash on the streets, I will literally walk up to you and punch you in the face with it!
So tired of lazy people destroying the environment!
Enough hate here now.
On our second day in Midigama, we finally discovered a cleaner beach near the “Wild Beach Bar”. The bar itself makes the BEST fruit salad ever, even though you should bring some time when going there - I waited for thirty minutes to get it. And over an hour for fried noodles… -.-
But the beach is really nice! Just 50 meters long and with very few people swimming or relaxing, it´s perfect for everyone who doesn´t need to watch the surfers 24/7 😊

More trash about trash

Maybe you like being choked during sex. But sea turtles don´t. So keep your good damn trash out of the Ocean!
