Chan el-Chalili/ Al azhar park

I guess the Chal el-Chalili Bazar is one of the things you have to see when going to Cairo, since people call it the main attraction after the Pyramids.

I went there twice, but one time would have been enough! It´s nice to see, but it´s mostly really crowded and kinda tiring because obviously everyone wants to sell you something, so you gotta tell everyone that you´re "just looking" if you don´t want to be super rude and just ignore all the sales men and women.

If you really want to buy something, it´s worth checking the prices - they might differ a lot from stand to stand, depending on what you want to buy.
Luckily, the whole bazar is organized in categories, so there´s always one street selling one thing - but despite that, you might manage to get lost there, because it´s a huge area!

Even though most of the sellers kinda wanna rip you of (of course - it´s their job. Can´t even blame them for that) I was really lucky there. Ended up buying a bag for 400 Rs instead of 2000 in one shop, and was given a free necklace and earrings in another. If you know how to negotiate about prices and are not too easy to get tired, you will enjoy the bazar a lot! And even if you´re not planning to buy anything, it´s fun to watch the other people and simply enjoy the busy atmosphere.
The perfect place to chill out after a possibly demanding time at the bazar, is in the al Azhar-Park, about 2 km away from the bazar.
It´s the most beautiful park I saw in whole Cairo, with well-organized paths and beautiful little gimmicks. Plus, there´s many view points from which I had an amazing view over the city (even saw the Pyramids, 16km away!!), but only on an un-dusty and uncloudy day. I was told that the park it the meeting point for Arab families on the weekend and it´s true - there´s not many foreign tourists to find there! But I didn´t even realize that, my friend had to tell me... Guess after a few months in Cairo, you stop making a difference between people! (Like we all should. Moral apostle speaking.)
There are even some restaurants at the park, and my favorite one was the one located at a huge lake, which sold yummi Lebanese food :)

Right behind the lake, one can see the Citadel of Saladin, which might also be worth the visit when being around - it´s just three kilometers away from the park.
