Hikkaduwa

Hikkaduwa literally was my favorite city in Sri Lanka - I spent about 10 days there, which is a long time for me, who usually enjoys being on the run 24/7!

First things first, was the only place where the "Partys" really were PARTYS. There´s something going on from Thursday to Monday - and the rest of the week can easily be spent by chilling at one of the beautiful beaches.

Two really nice bars that are amazing, even outside of their "party days" are the "Funky bar" or the "Chill space". Since they´re directly at the beach, they´re both the perfect spot for the beer after the surf! Or after the chill out, depending on how lazy you´re spending your day lol.

For everyone who likes turtle watching and doesn´t care about animals being treated like some sort of rare attraction - go to the beach at "Tranz Hotel".

I personally hated the guy who arranged the turtle thing, because he made it all too touristy... Sure, the turtles could leave the spot at any time, but still - having sometimes over 20 people standing around one turtle and taking pics/feeding her made me a bit angry! BUT it´s a great chance of seeing around 12 giant turtles at a time, so it´s kida fun anyway lol.

Whatever, there´s many other things to see at the beaches. Some corals, fish, funny surfers...the most beautiful sunsets in whole Lanka!
Can´t stress enough how much I loved Hikkaduwa! Some people I met there said that they experienced it as quite expensive, but it was one of the cheapest city for me - small can of beer for 100RS (50ct) and Rice n´Curry for 160RS (not even 2$) - it doesn´t get any cheaper!

What you really have to see when going to Hikka is one of the Tsunami museum, a bit outside from the city. There´s three of them, two are for free but you gotta pay 500 Rs for the first one. The most expensive is also the best and most touching one, so I´d pay the extra cash next time again!
Most people (including me till I went to Lanka), don´t even know that the Tsunami in 2004 also affected Sri Lanka- not only India and Thailand, even fewer know how many people died there and how devasting the consequences were...

It´s not a nice thing to see and I cried seeing the pictures of destroyed houses and dead people, but not everything´s nice and shiny! Plus I think that you should always learn something about the country you´re visiting, so one of the museums is the perfect chance for that :)

Most people have heard about the Tsunami in Thailand in 2004 - only few  know that Sri Lanka was affected even worse!
