Okay, I´m gonna try being less sarcastic here.
First of all, you have to pay 150 pounds as a foreigner, just to enter the triangle territory.
If you want to go inside one pile of sand, you gotta pay extra for that – don´t ask me how much, I didn´t see a sense behind that and therefore didn´t go.
Once you went trough the gate, there´s gonna be about 4 guys running towards you, trying to convince you of their qualities as a tour guide. Or talk you into some animal torture in form of a camel ride. Do you need a scarf? Gaaaargh.
Fresh up your Arab and try it with “la shukraan” (no thanks), that makes them fuck off most of the time – especially when you´re white and a girl, because they seem to be expecting everything BUT that :D
My host family had decided to go on a camel tour around the pyramids, because they didn´t give a shit about the way the animals were treated (not good tho), but I rather walked around alone.
Don´t regret it at all, because on my way I saw way too many horses and camels being beaten and forced to run over hard ground in the burning sun, carrying fat n´ lazy families in the wagon behind them…
Anyway, I have to admit it, the pyramids are kinda cool. They weren´t as big as expected, but when you´re standing in front of them, bringing to your mind that people built that without machines and mostly men power… That´s impressive!
I walked to the third pyramid, behind which I had my peace from salesmen and kids to read my book and watch the sunset. THAT was great tho!
But yeah, spending a bit more than one hour there is fine and I don´t really need to go there again. Guess they´re still gonna look the same in 10 years.
I got friends who payed a tour guide (and got completely ripped off, told ya!) but they got these fancy pictures where it looks like you´re holding the pyramid between your fingers. Or they know how you have to jump, so that it looks like you´re sitting at the top of one. Unnecessary but fun I guess 😊
